Garfield Park Conservatory hail damage

For the past two winters, the weekly Soup & Bread event has brought together soups from notable locals with bread from La Farine, served cafeteria-style at the Hideout with proceeds going to charity. In the wake of the damage done to the Garfield Park Conservatory last week, it’s back tonight at the Hideout from 5:30-8pm, and donations go to support the forthcoming repairs. The soups come from some promising institutions, headlined by Big Star, and Michael Slaboch—producer/archivist for the Numero Group*—will DJ.

In other parties-for-a-good-cause news, Chicago Mixtape is hosting an all-day bash at Revere Park this Sunday, headlined by rock sibs White Mystery; suggested donations is $5 and all proceeds go to the Neighborhood Boys and Girls Club. Chicago Mixtape is worth checking out if you want to catch up on the local scene—it’s a weekly e-mail that gives you a CD-ish-length mix of city artists.

* One of their most recent releases is Cult Cargo: Salsa Boricua de Chicago, a collection of vintage Chicago salsa from the 1970s.
