Former Scissor Girls front woman Azita plays a free show at the Rainbo Club tonight at 8:30 ("Youssefi is such a scene fixture that she refers to the Rainbo metonymically" — Jessica Hopper). If you haven’t heard her since her mid-90s noise-weirdo years, she couldn’t be more different now. Her last album, How Will You, is an impossibly rich collection of piano ballads that might be my favorite album from any Chicago artist, or at least up there with Edith Frost’s Wonder Wonder and Liz Phair’s Whip-Smart. She’s playing songs from her upcoming album Disturbing the Air (apparently due in September).
