Will Burns, Ricardo Muñoz, Nicholas Sposato, and George Cardenas stopped by Chicago Tonight to talk about the budget. There's not much that's revelatory, aside from Muñoz's idea to implement a financial services tax (the luxury-services tax didn't come up), an idea that gets floated at all levels of government but is politically difficult to implement. One thing came up that hasn't gotten as much attention, swamped as it's been by talk about the CPD budget—the Fire Department, fearing mass retirement, wants a lot more firefighters. So while the CPD is pinching pennies (and headcount), the CFD is not being so modest, setting up an interesting power dynamic over the new budget.
