Sneak out for a midweek romantic soirée in honor of D.O.C.’s (2602 N. Clark St., Lincoln Park, 773-883-5101; 326 Yorktown Center, Lombard, 630-627-6666) new weekly Date Night.

The kickoff event Wednesday gets couples a wine flight paired with a chocolate truffle flight for $20 at either D.O.C. location—you’ll need a reservation, though. But starting next week, truffles will be on the house for couples who drop in and buy a bottle of wine on Thursdays.
 

Friday, 11/22

Savor the Food Film Festival’s Food Porn Party (Kendall College, 900 N. North Branch St., Goose Island), a series of up-close-and-personal dish films (like Matt Checkowski’s reverse-engineering of a beer-braised ox cheek from Michelin-starred Swedish restaurant Mathias Dahlgren), a fondue lounge, and, most importantly, samples of all the dishes featured in the films. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for general admission—buy $65 tickets here.
 

Saturday, 11/23

Hoard desserts to freeze and save for the holidays—Eli’s Cheesecake (6701 W. Forest Preserve Drive, 773-205-3800) has the first of its two annual Dock Sales from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. (the second’s right before Christmas), with desserts available at deep discounts all day long.

Score a snack for the ride home by bringing a non-perishable food item for the Food Depository to trade in for a free pre-packaged slice, or donate $10 and get a free seven-inch cheesecake. You can also do the donation-for-cheesecake trade at the Eli’s booth at the Magnificent Mile Lights Festival. They’re on Lights Festival Lane on the Plaza at 401 N. Michigan Ave. from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Pig out at Tavernita’s (151 W. Erie St., River North, 312-274-1111) Bacon and H.A.M. luau brunch from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Island-themed items, such as pineapple-coconut pancakes, will be on offer, as will special Brugal rum cocktails and Tavernita’s standard four-dish-and-a-drink brunch menu for $18.50. Come decked out in tropical gear and get 15 percent off your meal.
