Carciofi alla giudea at Tre Soldi

Tre Soldi (212 E. Ohio St., no phone yet), the upcoming restaurant from the group that owns Coco Pazzo and its sister café, has signed chef Brandon Wolff (Signature Room, La Madia, Osteria Via Stato) to run the kitchen.

Wolff and Coco Pazzo’s executive chef, Federico Comacchio, collaborated on the menu, which revolves around Rome and the Lazio region more generally—the three coins in the restaurant’s name refer to those in the fountain in the Rome-set movie and song.

“There are some very classic dishes that you may not know are Roman,” Wolff says. Per esempio:

  • Pasta carbonara, with eggs and black pepper
  • Bucatini all’amatriciana, the spicy tomato sauce with guanciale
  • Carciofi alla giudea, twice-fried artichokes, a dish from Rome’s Jewish ghetto
  • Roman pizza, in maybe six varieties at opening. “Roman pizza is crispier [than Neapolitan], and definitely has a thin crust,” Wolff says.

The Tre Soldi team hopes to open in the first week of June, which will probably be right after we get that B-52s song out of our heads.
