These sea scallops and their fluffy bed of corn-chive risotto are one of the standouts on Hutch's menu.

This past Thursday, Hutch (3301 N. Clark St., 773-248-1155) debuted in the former Socca space. Named for the stolid piece of dining-room furniture, Hutch serves American comfort food such as a pork chop with cheddar polenta and apple-bacon slaw, a charcuterie plate with Wisconsin cheese curds, and tomato soup with grilled-cheese croutons.

To match the comfort food, Hutch presents comfort décor, to coin a term, with homey details such as a kitchen-island-like host stand and country sinks in the bathrooms. Grass wallpaper and a cork ceiling abate sound.

Marc Wuenschel, Hutch’s chef/owner, says the sea scallops with corn-chive risotto and pork belly was the big star of opening night. Or as we’d prefer to call it, the Starsky. To Hutch. Tip your servers; we’re here all week.
