The Bentley (2834 N. Southport Ave., no phone yet) is looking to launch the first week in August. Previously home to Lucca’s, the space experienced a quick facelift under the direction of New York–based owner Brian Dohmen. A new marble bar and seating for up to 50 will get things started at the American tavern, with plans for a 50-seat patio on the way.
Chef Ian Flowers (Lokal) has designed a moderately-priced appetizer and entrée menu, with snack-size options for those just needing a nosh. He describes the feel of the brasserie-type restaurant as “very neighborhoody.”
“Not that the Chicago market is completely lacking in that, but there is a niche there that we a going to try to fill,” says Flowers.
Expect staples such as steak frites, burgers, and oysters. Special flourishes such as house-prepared charcuterie and a dessert of dark chococlate ganache served with port cherries and candied orange give the menu a decadent boost.
The full bar will deliver craft cocktails along with a decent selection of single barrel whiskeys and malt scotches. Flowers hopes to stock the beer list with locally sourced brews.
The Bentley will offer night owls a new snack spot, with the last reservation for dinner around 11 p.m. and a late-night menu available afterward.
