To help out the family of chef Homaro Cantu, who recently passed away, Bread & Wine (3732 W. Irving Park Rd., Irving Park, 773-866-5266) will host a benefit tonight for the Cantu Children’s Trust. Tickets are $75, and they include food from both Bread & Wine and Smoque BBQ, beverages from many local vendors, and access to a silent auction with items including several chef dinners, a walk-on role as the bartender on Check, Please!, and a cooking class from Carrie Nahabedian. Thursday, May 14

For a night of plants and pints, the Garfield Park Conservatory (300 N. Central Park Ave.) will be throwing its annual Beer Under Glass event, and a few $60 general admission tickets are left. This year, attendees will be able to sip offerings from 80 breweries as they peruse both the indoor and outdoor gardens now that the spot’s glass roof restoration is complete.

Chomp on some cookies at the grand opening of Read It & Eat (2142 N. Halsted St., Lincoln Park), a brand-new culinary bookstore. The event will double as a signing for Mindy Segal’s cookbook, Cookie Love, as well as a sampling of her book’s wares.

Bust out the bikes and cruise on over to Parson’s Chicken & Fish (2952 W. Armitage Ave., Logan Square, 773-384-3333) for the spot’s two-year anniversary, which will include a patio party with $2 Modelos, $4 Micheladas, free safety checks from Boulevard Bikes, and funk and soul tunes courtesy of Soul Summit DJ Dave Matta. The celebration starts at 3 p.m.

In honor of 81 years in the bar biz, Lottie’s Pub (1925 W. Cortland Ave., Bucktown, 773-489-0738) will host a two-day celebration that starts at 11 a.m. today until close with 81-cent draft beers, $5 Jameson and Jameson Black and Stormys, and $8.10 14-inch pizzas—and, to top it all off, 81-cent burgers from noon to 4 p.m. (On Sunday, the deal switches to 81-cent mimosas.)
