Up next in our series of weekend plans from notable, in-the-know locals—a.k.a. people we like: Joshua Manculich, ensemble member with Thodos Dance. New Dances 2013 runs Friday, July 19 through Sunday, July 21.

“Thursday evening, we have a dress rehearsal for New Dances 2013, which has ten pieces by 13 choreographers. My piece is a contemporary work for seven women. I’m also dancing in another piece. We’re talking about going to Blue Agave afterwards. It’s right next to our studio and they have good margaritas.

“Friday night will be low-key because it’s opening night. If I could, I would go to Jackie Stewart and Wade Shaaf’s dance performance at the University of Chicago. Jackie is an alum of Thodos Dance and now she has her own dance company, Jaxon Movement Arts. She and Schaaf are presenting work called CollabLab on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Reva and David Logan Center for the Arts. It’s more intimate than New Dances.

“Saturday morning, I’ll go to The Coffee Studio up in Andersonville. They’re busy but they don’t feel busy. I’ll get my favorite Americano there. I [also] teach at Steps Dance Center, so do two other company members. We’re all going to teach there and then come back and do our show at 7:30.

“Sunday is our last day of the show. I have family in town so they’ll probably take me out to Tre Kronor; it’s a Swedish restaurant. I always get a Stockholm Omelet. Then after the show, my boss is taking a bunch of us to Chicago Q. I’m really excited, I’ve been told that they have bourbon milkshakes.” —As told to Tomi Obaro
