WHAT I’M DOING THIS WEEKEND

Tony Karmin
Up next in our series of weekend plans from notable, in-the-know locals—a.k.a. people we like: Tony Karmin, president and director of Expo Chicago. Expo Chicago runs from Thursday, September 19 to Sunday September 22.
“Friday morning begins with a breakfast at the Arts Club for our VIP attendees. I’ll leave for several different events in the evening, including the Roxy Paine opening at Kavi Gupta. [Paine] has been working for a long time on this installation, it’s going to be important to experience and to have one of our leading art dealers [there].
Saturday, we have what’s called Cocktails & Curators, we partner contemporary curators with VIP guests. The cocktail portion is a glass of Ruinart. I'll close it out with Late Night at Wright, in partnership with Gallery Weekend Chicago. [We will] celebrate a great weekend of art and activities.
Sunday, is the close of Expo Chicago. We’ll have tours throughout the South Side going to the Smart Museum and the Renaissance Society. I probably will not go down to those; I will be spending my time at the Pier, with the exhibitors for the final day.” —As told to Tomi Obaro
