Beauty in the ’Burbs

Good news for beauty product addicts on the North Shore: Since Saks Fifth Avenue in downtown Highland Park closed earlier this year, two purveyors are stepping in to satisfy the need for luxury cosmetics and skincare. In the first week of June, Colorado-based cosmetics and skincare boutique Cos Bar (662 Central Ave, Highland Park, 847-432-6249, cosbar.com) will open its first Illinois location. Shelves will teem with makeup, skincare, and fragrances from popular brands such as Laura Mercier, Bobbi Brown, and La Mer, as well as hard-to-find luxury labels like Sisley, Natura Bisse, and Edward Bess. Just up the street, the East Coast-based boutique Bluemercury (638 Central Ave., Highland Park, 847-432-7200, bluemercury.com) opened its fifth Chicagoland location last month. Here, you’ll find a roster of luxury and niche brands (NARS, Trish McEvoy, and M-61) similar to Cos Bar’s, plus a spa specializing in facials, waxing, and makeup application.

Top Sales This Week

Head to the West Loop for a mid-week warehouse sale at the Chicago Artist Coalition (217 N. Carpenter St.). Brands such as One Teaspoon, Wildfox, and Bless'ed Are the Meek from vendors including Sofia (sofialivelovely.com), Luxury Garage Sale (luxurygaragesale.com), and M2F Brand Denims (m2f.com) are marked 60 to 90 percent off. Stake out the sale on Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

For the very first time, bridal boutique BHLDN (8 E. Walton St., 312-573-2573, bhldn.com) hosts a sample sale. Hightail it over bright and early on Sunday to score gowns marked from $100 to $200 and a limited selection of event dresses and shoes for just $25. Bring your A Game, shoppers: The sale only lasts three hours (8 a.m. to 11 a.m.) and there is no purchase limit.
