The Property: From its jaunty Z-shaped façade to its show-stopping red and chrome kitchen, this exuberant four-bedroom Glenview house doesn’t hold back. It even comes with a built-in exclamation point—made of wood inlay and situated on the master bedroom floor.

Piotr and Danuta Ozymko—he’s a contractor, and together they run Accent Café, a Mount Prospect nightclub—built the house three years ago. They bought the lot, which previously held a tiny, 1950s ranch house, because it abuts a vast swath of Cook County Forest Preserve around Beck Lake.

As you will see in the video, the Ozymkos went for bold looks wherever they could, from the graphic wide-striped wood floor laid diagonally in the main living room to a powder room whose stainless steel toilet is surrounded by blue-dot tiles on the walls and floor. The master bath (one of four-plus) contains a unique approach to the double-vanity sink: the two sinks are on opposite sides of a freestanding mirror wall. There and in the entry hall, tile runs up the walls at unexpected angles, and in the basement, a serpentine wall of glass brick runs along one side of the main room.

But the couple knew where to quit, and that was at the rear of the house, which opens to broad, tranquil views of the woods. There is a large deck off the main floor, complete with a kitchen area, and upstairs, the master bedroom has a roofed, glass-sided balcony that captures a nice prospect deep into the trees. As if to drive home the point that the house embraces a lovely natural setting, when I was answering a phone call in my car, four docile deer stood all around me nibbling at whatever greenery was popping up through the snow.

Price Points: The Ozymkos paid $235,000 for the lot in 2001; I could not determine the cost to build the new house—which, although the most visually distinctive, is not the largest of the new homes in this self-contained neighborhood near The Grove National Historic Landmark. The couple initially listed the house for $1.999 million, but when their current agent, Ron Goldstein, took over the listing earlier this year, they cut the price to $1.525 million.
