Given how unpredictably showery this summer has been, I've found myself craving an umbrella that I can tuck into my handbag—and that won't break after just one use.

I was happy to learn that a collapsible version of the Sky umbrella, designed by Tibor Kalman and Emanuela Frattini Magnusson in 1992 for the MoMA gift shop (shown here in its original, non-collapsible form), is available at the Art Institute gift shop. It is not only sturdier than most, it gives you a happy view under its classic black exterior.
