Summer is winding down, which means back to school sales are ramping up. Two local boutiques that cater to tween girls, Crush (2138 W. Roscoe St., 773-661-9481, crushonroscoe.com) in Roscoe Village and Frankie's on the Park (2322 N. Clark St., 773-248-0400, frankiesonthepark.com) in Lincoln Park showed us some of their biggest trends for fall—and some of them look rather familiar.

Splendid Girl's Denim Overalls

$70 at Crush and Saks Fifth Avenue

Denim dungarees are back, but the silhouette is a bit more fitted than its ’90s grunge counterpart.

Tractr Pleather Side Stripe Jog Pants

$62 at Frankies on the Park

"The track pant is huge this season," says Crush boutique owner Jodi Hughes. The faux leather trim on this pair from Frankie's on the Park keep them from crossing into pajama territory.

Splendid Aston Flannel

$128 at Frankie's on the Park

Plaid, buffalo check, or tartan, the old flannel is making its high school comeback this semester.

Un Deux Trois Love Sweater

$68 at Frankie's on the Park

Graphic tees, tanks, and sweaters: it's all a medium for self-expression. Letterman sweaters and chunky knit cardigans will also be big in the tween department this fall.

Splendid Girl Indigo Active Moto Jacket

$68 at Frankie's on the Park

If you're thinking, "Hey, I'd wear that jacket"—you can. "A lot of companies do direct take downs from their women's to girls," Hughes says.

Living Royal Banana Split Socks

$8 at Frankie's on the Park

Patterned socks (both short and knee-length) are all the rage at Frankie's on the Park, especially anything in a kitschy sweet print: think doughnuts, candy, cookies, or sprinkles.
