This Week’s Top Story

Making jewelry runs in Alexandra Marks’ genes. The Chicago-based designer is a fourth-generation jeweler whose pieces use sterling silver and cubic zirconia for a luxury look — without the price tag to match.

At her newly opened Wicker Park boutique, Alexandra Marks, (1747 W. Division St., alexandramarksjewelry.com), Marks displays her jewelry against Old Hollywood–style trappings. The glossy white floor is decked with black, geometric patterns; display cases are softly backlit; and a twisted branch dripping in crystals hangs overhead.

The shop’s one-of-a-kind pieces may include delicate necklaces made for layering, chokers strung with gold circles, and stackable rings. The jeweler’s new “diamond” collection also includes cubic zirconia rings.

With the exception of a few pieces that ring in at around $200 (take these $188 feather earrings), the great majority of items cost under $100; many go for less than $50.
