Study after study shows that women in the workplace are judged on appearance more than their male counterparts. BizOver, a style event that offers makeovers to female entrepreneurs and professionals, is more of the attitude that if you can't beat the social status quo, you might as well game the system—by giving women makeovers and letting them make powerful work connections at the same time.

The 9th annual BizOver event is happening at Neiman Marcus on Wednesday. Guests will drink, eat, and chat with prominent women in their field, all while receiving mini-manicures and makeovers from beauty experts on hand. Sponsor George the Salon is also giving attendees gift certificates so that they can get their hair made-over at a later, more convenient date.

Founder Lema Khorshid, an attorney of Fuksa Khorshid, LLC, says that the BizOver makeover isn't so much a drastic transformation, though. “Less is always more,” she says, noting that the makeup artists strive for a “professional, polished look” rather than anything involving glitter.

But like any good businesswoman knows, it's never just about appearances. “At each event, we feature a different BizOver host committee—a group of 10 to 15 business owners and professionals who help to recruit BizOver guests by inviting women in their network to attend the event,” says Khorshid. The results of the event can be quite emotional—guests have broken down in tears.

BizOver is happening at Neiman Marcus (737 N. Michigan Ave.) on Wednesday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $65 at the door. Part of the night's proceeds will be used to support other women entrepreneurs.
