Whatever you want to call this color—maroon, oxblood, bordeaux—I’ve never liked it. Until, strangely, this season. For fall, the hue is somehow looking like the perfect alternative to black: A little richer, a little deeper, a little less obvious.

So when I spied this Yigal Azrouël lambskin jacket at Nordstrom’s anniversary sale (the retailer’s annual pre-fall price-cutting event, which began this past Friday and lasts until August 4), I fell in love. It’s not just the color, but the clever neckline that you can drape higher to cut autumnal winds. And the zip-off-able sleeves that make it work even on warmer days.

Salut!

$989 (goes up to $1,595 on August 4) at Nordstrom, 55 E. Grand Ave., or at nordstrom.com.
