The Chicago History Museum (1601 N. Clark St., will host the first exhibit devoted entirely to American couturier Main Rousseau Bocher, WWD reports. The founder of the Mainbocher label grew up in Chicago and gained prominence after designing a wedding dress for the Duchess of Windsor in 1937; he’s also thought to have invented the strapless evening gown. Dubbed Making Mainbocher: The First American Couturier, the exhibit will open on October 22. It will showcase some 30 Mainbocher garments, along with photographs, drawings, illustrations, and videos that tell the designer’s fascinating story.

The Barneys (15 E. Oak St., Designer Sale is winding down, and goods are now up to 75 percent off.  The sale is also running online, where items include a bejeweled Lanvin gown (reduced from $2,890 to $719) and a bird-print Valentino blouse (reduced from $1,590 to $639).

Madewell (932 N. Rush St., is offering an extra 30 percent off its sale items and an extra 50 percent off already-reduced dresses and rompers.

Vineyard Vines (932 N. Rush St., has taken an additional 30 percent off its sale items. Preppy finds include gingham shirts for men (reduced from $98.50 to $69.99) and striped, sleeveless Polo shirts for women (reduced from $79.50 to $54.99).

To celebrate the 4th of July, Penelope’s is holding a “Made in America” sale. Items that were made in the states are 25 percent off; merchandise includes T-shirt dresses from Dusen Dusen and a lavender cross-body bag by C.A.B.


Nordstrom (55 E. Grand Ave., will host a pop-up shop devoted to camping gear July 1 to 31. Curated by the store’s VP of creative projects Olivia Kim, the shop will sell canteens and cooking gear as well as jackets, sweaters, and vintage T-shirts.

The Sistercity Studio pop-up (1112 N. Ashland Ave., is open in Wicker Park through July 16. The showroom, housed within the Cat Von Kang art gallery, features the work of Czech designers.

After 25 years in business, the Gold Coast’s Marianne Strokirk Salon opens in a new location today. The salon, which offers haircuts and styles, nail care, waxing, and more, is now located at 1325 North State Parkway.
