If you like makeup and love the Windy City, you’re probably already reading 312 Beauty, Chicagoan Laurie Leopold’s makeup and skincare blog that’s full of product reviews, lifestyle musings, and lots of local recommendations.

On Saturday, May 16, Leopold will be hosting "The Makeup Date," a beauty-themed runway show at Bloomingdale's North Michigan Avenue flagship, where top beauty brands present spring’s newest beauty trends. Have you been wondering if bold lips are on their way out yet, or struggling to understand this crazy new eyebrow lightening business? After the show, expert makeup artists will be available for one-on-one consultations to answer all your burning questions. All attendees will also go home with a limited-edition train case. Plus, the $25 reservation fee is credited toward the beauty purchase of your choice, so you’ll be tempted to walk home with a new Dior lipstick at the very least.

Can’t make it on the 16th? Leopold's sharing some of her favorite warm-weather beauty trends right here. If you’re tired of slogging to work every day with the same bold-brow-nude-lip combo, try out one of these subtle, summery tricks.

Muted Bright Lips

“Take the neons that have dominated the past few summers and tone them down just a bit for a modern update. Think a cheery pink, coral, or soft red. These muted hues are extra flattering and can flex for the office or rooftop cocktails. And you can have a lot of fun with different textures: try YSL Volupte Tint-in-Oil for that wet look or NARS Satin Lip Pencil for a semi-matte lip—the red Majella is universally awesome.”

Layered Liner

“A fun and interesting way to incorporate more color on your eyes without shadow is to layer a bright color eyeliner over black. Teal on black is the ultimate pop!”

Fresh-Faced

“Less really is more, and a flawless face starts with beautiful skin. Hydrate skin with treatment serums and facial oils—and don’t forget to give the eye area extra TLC. Clarins Total Eye Concentrate gives a mini eye lift in five seconds, and Bobbi Brown is the authority on eye brightening with her corrector and concealer kit.”

Monochromatic Bronze

The timeless trend that you can comfortably rely on every season. The key is finding a bronzer for your skin tone. As a first step, load up on SPF (Shiseido makes a great one) and use a matte bronzer on cheeks, along the hairline, jawline, and even as eye shadow. Keep lips in the same color family.”

Inky Eyes

“Skip the shadow and keep it simple with just two products: eyeliner and mascara. Smudge around the eyes—use grey if black is too intense—and diffuse it with a brush so it doesn’t look too perfect. To amp it up, apply several coats of mascara. Lancome Grandiose Mascara has an angled-brush wand that grabs even the tiniest of lashes that you can never seem to reach.”
