Back in August, local boutique owner Mallory Ulaszek closed her two storefronts—Cityblue Apparel & Denim, in Old Town, and its suburban sister store, CB, in Lake Forest. The intent was to open a singular concept boutique focused less on mainstream brands and more on hard-to-find designer labels.

The result arrives as Ulaszek’s new men's and women's boutique, Roam (1419 N. Wells St., 312-664-2222), now open for business in Old Town. (The shop’s grand opening festivities are slated for November 1.)

The bi-level space (previously occupied by Nicole Miller) has a new vibe with black walls, exposed brick, and vintage décor. Ulaszek stuck with the some of the best-selling brands from her former boutiques, such as Halston Heritage, MM6, Current Elliott, and AG, and added emerging designers Daniel Vosovic, Anine Bing and Illesteva to the mix. For men, she stocked up on casualwear from brands like Life/After/Denim, Original Penguin, and Citizen. Come spring 2014, Ulaszek plans to expand Roam’s stock to include footwear.
