RPM Steak Is Something Different

How one bright idea from the RPM Italian team led to another—and gave River North a different kind of steak house.

When RPM Italian opened in 2012, its customers loved the pasta but also raved about the steak. That’s all the team behind the place—Rich Melman (Lettuce Entertain You), his progeny (RJ, Jerrod, and Molly Melman), his reality-show pals (Bill and Giuliana Rancic), and his chef (Doug Psaltis)—needed to hear to go into meat mode.

As for the glut of steak houses already in River North? Pishposh. “It takes something to make a steak house a little different,” says Melman Sr. “Some of the meat will be sourced from Japan, so the boys went there to meet personally with the suppliers.”

Expect plenty of farm-to-table vegetables and a menu section just for mushrooms—and the restaurant will look “as stylish as Giuliana.” That different enough for you?
