At Left Coast Food + Juice (2878 N. Lincoln Ave., 773-880-5338, Lake View) consulting chef Paul Kahan seems intent on appealing to our healthier natures by encouraging guests to pair everything from salmon-stuffed buckwheat crepes to turkey meatball wraps with a rainbow selection of healthy smoothies. Expect a full line of cold-pressed juices to debut later this month.

Anglophile alert! The new Bakewell Bakery in Flossmor (1050 Sterling Ave., 708-991-7462) has loaded up its menu with enough English specialties to make Gordon Ramsey blink, including savory pies, bangers and back bacon sandwiches, lemon curd tarts, and, of course, afternoon tea every Sunday.

Don’t look now but Nando’s Peri-Peri, which specializes in flame-grilled Portuguese-style chicken, is building quite the local empire, including its recently opened location in Oak Park (1138 Lake St., 708-434-6296).

Deep-dish pizza legend Burt Katz died over the weekend at the age of 78. His iconic pie legacy includes the founding of Pequod’s (which he eventually sold) and Burt’s Place, an idiosyncratic Morton Grove spot that became a destination. You can read more about his life in the Tribune’s excellent obituary.

Treat yourself this month at Shake Shack (multiple area locations, see shakeshack.com) during their Great American Shake Sale. Give $2 or more to No Kid Hungry during the month of May and you’ll get a card for a free shake on your next visit—this week’s spotlight flavor is oatmeal crème pie.
