Fashion Columbia 2009

On Tuesday, May 12 more than 250 fashionistas, Chicago fashion industry professionals, and media gathered at the Harold Washington Library Winter Garden for Fashion Columbia 2009 to celebrate the senior collections of 13 Columbia College Chicago fashion design students. Afterwards, guests met with the designers during a Designers’ Circle where they had an opportunity to view their portfolios, place orders, and make appointmetns with the designers. Proceeds benefited the Nena Ivon Scholarship Fund for fashion design and fashion retail management.

Third Annual Green Awards

April 15, 2009–In its third year, the annual “Green Awards” editorial feature in Chicago magazine’s April issue honored six individuals whose efforts in the areas of conservation and sustainability were considered groundbreaking. To salute these individuals, Chicago magazine partnered with Shedd Aquarium to hold a private 2.5-hour award reception held at the Shedd for over 125 guests. Hosted by the editor and publisher of Chicago magazine, the reception included a Champagne toast to the winners’ achievements and plentiful hors d’oeuvres and beverages.

Common Threads’ World Festival Event

March 23, 2009 — Chicago-based children’s charity Common Threads hosted its fourth annual World Festival event on Monday, March 23rd at the Museum of Contemporary Art. This year’s festival, where nearly 700 foodies munched and mingled, achieved net proceeds of $413,000, making it the organization’s most successful fundraiser to date! Funds raised will directly support after-school cooking programming for low-income children in Chicago, South Central Los Angeles, and Miami.

A Dark Night

February 22, 2009 — Chicago magazine and the Associate Board of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation teamed up again this year to celebrate the 81st Annual Academy Awards in style. “A Dark Night”-themed viewing party at the new South Loop tapas restaurant, Tapas Valencia, welcomed over 250 guests who enjoyed signature cocktails, wine, beer courtesy of Stella Artois, and delicious tapas. Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Grand Chefs Gala

January 30, 2009 — A dazzling night of Vivid fire delighted guests at the twelfth annual Fairmont Hotels & Resorts Grand Chefs Gala, presented by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The city’s most magnificent “chef event” of the year featured the Jean Banchet Awards for Culinary Excellence. Guests enjoyed hors d’oeuvres, a gourmet dinner prepared by the Fairmont Chicago’s Executive Chef, Brad Parsons, and assorted desserts. The event raised more than $500,000 for medical research on behalf of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
