Open now: Tucked alongside from the bar at the old-school Green Door Tavern is something brand-new, a speakeasy known as the Drifter (678 N. Orleans St., River North, 312-664-5496). Enter via the Green Door for cocktails from mixologist Liz Pearce (Drawing Room, Gage), the descriptions for which are all printed on tarot cards.

A big name in drinking is setting down his cocktail shaker—Mike Ryan has stepped away from the bar at Sable (505 N. State St., River North, 312-755-9704) to take on a national education position with parent company Kimpton Hotels. Taking over for him will be John Stanton, who’s been with the bar since it opened.
