Here’s the scoop on Graeter’s (1374 Shermer Road, Northbrook, 847-513-6540), the Cincinnati-based ice cream store that set up its first Chicago-area shop on May 10: Your first order should be black raspberry chip, speckled with massive chunks of dark, fudgy chocolate.

As of today, Begyle Brewing (1800 W. Cuyler Ave., North Center, 773-661-6963) is no longer just a carry-out operation. The beermaker has officially added a taproom, with plans to host food trucks on the weekends and bump up production of their offerings. Don’t plan to go there for a late-nightcap, though—the taproom will close at 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

Our long, national nightmare is (almost) over—Jeni Britton Bauer, owner of Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams, said in a Facebook post this week that the creamery’s production facility will be back up and running by the end of the week, meaning your overlong separation from all things Salty Caramel is approaching its blessed end. Jeni’s called for a company-wide recall of its products and shutdown of its Ohio production facility after a few pints tested positive for listeria.

The opening of Chicago’s first outpost of Nando’s Peri-Peri in the West Loop is imminent, but it won’t be the only place to get fire-grilled chicken when it opens. Fat Rice (2957 W. Diversey Ave., Logan Square, 773-661-9170) is now open for lunch Wednesday through Saturday (this replaces their brunch every day of the week save for Sunday), and the meal’s centerpiece is the spot’s popular piri piri chicken in either an Africana version with chili-tomato-peanut sauce or Firebird style with a lemon-garlic-chili sauce dubbed “Fatracha.”
