Openings

Open now: Meat, beer, and Iowa football—that’s what you’ll find at the Tavern on Little Fort (4128 N. Lincoln Ave., North Center, 773-360-1869), the new bar from the owners of Roscoe Village’s Commonwealth Tavern. It’s taking over the former home of the Glunz Bavarian Haus.

Friday, September 12: Up for a pizza party? Parlor Pizza Bar (108 N. Green St., West Loop, 312-600-6090) will have wood-fired pies and, even better, a massive patio for enjoying them.

Saturday, September 13: Matthias Merges’ South Side invasion continues with the debut of Yusho Hyde Park (1301 E. 53rd St., 773-643-1652) at 4 p.m., a sequel to the popular Logan Square spot for Japanese-inspired eats. His first foray into the neighborhood, A10, opened late last year.

More West Loop food news: Starting on Monday, City Winery (1200 W. Randolph St., 312-733-9463) will add a weekday lunch to their slate of eats, with lots of cheeses, sandwiches, and salads. (And, of course, plenty of wine.)

Should you need to take a break from dancing at Slippery Slope (2357 N. Milwaukee Ave., Logan Square, 773-799-8504) to refuel, you’ll have a new eating option starting tomorrow. The bar’s joining up with the mobile Pierogi Wagon to bring the Polish mainstay to the hopping bar’s late-night eaters.

Your coffee could stand to be a little more hardcore. Dark Matter Coffee (738 N. Western Ave., Ukrainian Village, 773-697-8472) is here to help. The roaster paired up with the metal band Mastodon for a special brew called Black Blood, which takes their Unicorn Blood blend and ages it in Basil Hayden bourbon barrels. The limited-edition collaboration in honor of Mastodon’s new album will be available both in retail locations and online starting on Friday—which, conveniently, is the same day Mastodon takes the stage at Riot Fest.
