There’s a berry fest. And a beer fest. And free cookies! What’s not to love about this week?

The only thing better than cookies are free cookies, which you can get at Sweet Cakes Bakery (1223 N. Milwaukee Ave., Wicker Park, 773-772-5771) today in honor of the store’s seventh anniversary. If you can’t make it today, they’ll have free crispy rice treats tomorrow and free scones Thursday.

Wednesday, June 18

Grill master Steven Raichlen (author of several beloved barbecuing cookbooks) will be at Terzo Piano (159 E. Monroe St., Loop, 312-443-8653) for the next installment in the restaurant’s Travel Club luncheon series. The three-course meal for $33 will feature dishes from Raichlen’s newest cookbook, Man Made Meals: The Essential Cookbook for Guys, and the author will make the rounds to chat with diners and sign copies. Make a reservation by calling the restaurant.

Marty Fosse, owner of Azzurra (1467 N. Milwaukee Ave., Wicker Park, 773-278-5959), recently returned from a tour of the Puglia region of Italy and put together a dinner spotlighting his gustatory discoveries. The $65 meal will feature wine pairings selected by Puglia native and wine connoisseur Giovanni Sicilia, who accompanied Fosse on the trip. You can buy tickets here.

Friday, June 20

Celebrate all things berry at Long Grove’s annual Strawberry Festival, which showcases the summer fruit in chocolate-covered, ravioli, and doughnut forms, among others. The festival starts today at 10 a.m. in the streets of downtown Long Grove and runs all weekend long; admission is $5.

Sunday, June 22

Beer lovers, consider swinging by Chop Shop (2033 W. North Ave., Wicker Park, 773-537-4440) from 1 to 5 p.m. for TAP, a beer festival put on by the Wicker Park Bucktown Chamber of Commerce with offerings from 18 beer-friendly neighborhood establishments. The $40 ticket includes 10 six-ounce beer tastings and a commemorative pint glass.
