As someone who frequently dines out alone, I face certain challenges. “Everything is meant for sharing” doesn’t hold the same appeal when there’s no one to share with; it just means I get to try fewer items. Yes, there are tasting menus, but hourslong meals by yourself get boring. And a whole pizza? Out of the question. Solo diners, take heart: Noriko Handroll Bar, a 21-seater beneath the Korean barbecue favorite Perilla Fare, is perfect for us. First, this is a tough reservation, so snagging a single seat is actually easier. And, second, at just a few bites, you wouldn’t share these hand rolls anyway. I had the signature set from chefs Billy Lim and Rhan Whang — yellowtail, king salmon–avocado, California, and spicy bluefin tuna — and added a couple more. My favorite: the bluefin tuna akami roll, with torched tuna, green onion, and seasoned soy sauce. I’d go back to Noriko with a friend, I suppose, but it’s nice to know I don’t have to. 401 N.
