While the Archer Heights original remains closed indefinitely following a fire, this railroad car of a sophomore effort is still going strong. Jalisco-style birria, a.k.a. stewed goat, is what you’ve come for, and you choose either a plato of fall-apart meat or a tazón of meat in its soup. Either way, you’ll receive a tray stacked with tortillas, garnishes, and salsas to make tacos. While this is a good place for dinner before a show at an Uptown theater, it’s also excellent for lunch on a day when sunshine fills the room. You can sit along the kitchen-facing tiled counter if you’re feeling sociable, or along the one facing the window if you want to talk quietly with a friend, read, or contemplate life. If you’re dining alone, the quesabirria combo, with its two crisp-cheesy-meaty quesadillas hot off the grill with a dipping cup of consommé, is the way to go.
