At $98, the omakase at this lively, simply turned-out restaurant is one of the city’s great bargains. Sushi chef Timmy Chen (pictured above) offers 15 pieces of memorable nigiri bookended by a caviar-topped madai tartare to start and a slice of Basque cheesecake to finish. There will be the luxuries you might expect — plush otoro, sweet Hokkaido uni — and a few more rarefied, seasonal bites like beltfish and sea robin. Owners Andrew Choi and Jane Yim are committed to meeting the needs of your appetite and budget, and they offer both à la carte and modified omakase in the dining room. This is the kind of far-too-rare restaurant where even a Wednesday night feels like a special occasion.
